Featured Artist for September
Anne McCune — Encaustic, Acrylic & Plein Air Painter
Anne McCune has been painting for over 35 years, and in that time she has moved fluidly through watercolor, mixed-media collage, acrylics, and, most recently, encaustic wax — always carrying the lessons of each medium forward.
The natural world is her constant. Drawn to water, dramatic skies, and the way light behaves at either end of the day, Anne works to place the viewer inside the landscape rather than simply in front of it. Her plein air practice — she paints regularly around Rochester and the Finger Lakes — feeds directly into larger studio works, where the immediacy of working outdoors becomes something more considered.

Her path has been shaped by immersion: two encaustic wax workshops on the west coast of Ireland permanently altered her view of both landscape and art. Hailing from the UK and having lived in China and Mexico before settling in Rochester, Anne brings a genuinely international eye to the very local landscapes she loves.
A Signature member of the Rochester Art Club and the Genesee Valley Plein Air Painters, Anne has had work juried into local, national, and international exhibitions and has won multiple awards, most recently from the Genesee Land Trust at RoCo’s 2026 Members’ Show.
