Lisa Rachel Hupf is a mixed media artist whose work explores the expressive landscape through pattern-driven composition and an intimate relationship with the natural world. Working intuitively across oil, oil stick, acrylic, pastel, and collage, she builds layered surfaces drawn from both organic forms and the architectural structures embedded within them. Her subjects reside where nature and human-made structures meet—creeks, woodland edges, and the forms we leave behind.

Inspired by Joan Mitchell’s belief that painting is less about mirroring nature than about what it leaves us with, Hupf builds surfaces where color and pattern describe psychological and emotional truth. Her compositions sit in the compelling space between representation and abstraction.

Lisa’s artistic foundation includes coursework at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, complemented by intensive continuing education. She has refined her practice through specialized workshops with David Hornung (color and design), Holly Ann Friesen (landscape painting), and Jan Myers Newbury (fiber arts).

Following a successful career outside the arts, she is now fully dedicated to her studio practice and the operation of Lisa Hupf Fine Art LLC. Her work was recently accepted into the Allentown Art Festival, a premier juried exhibition and one of the longest-running art festivals in the United States. In addition to being a member here at Railroad Street Artworks, she is an active member of the Mill Art Center and Gallery, the Print Club of Rochester, the Rochester Art Club, and the Pastel Society of Western New York.
