Linda Serway Bordwell

Watercolor | Pastel

Linda Serway Bordwell is a watercolor and pastel artist who has had “art in her heart” from the very beginning. In her early years, her favorite things to do were draw, take out a box of crayons, and color away — getting lost in her field of flowers. Art was her “window to play” and provided the place to begin expressing herself, but it was not her career calling.

Linda left her small town in Upstate NY to attend Nazareth College, where she earned a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology. This well-chosen career path provided abundant opportunities to work with children and young adults as they found their joy in self-expression. She would incorporate drawing, writing, and creating to open the door that connects mind and heart.

Her personal story is one of twists and turns, joys and sorrows, wins and losses — all of which made for a rich life as a wife, a mom, a stepmother, and a grandmother with a beautifully blended family. In retirement, Linda found space for watercolor and pastel painting in her Penfield home studio. She has connected with other local artists at the Memorial Art Gallery, the Art Stop, and now at home at the Railroad Street Gallery.

Currently, she is a Signature Member of the Rochester Art Club and the Pastel Society of Western NY, and has enjoyed an online learning group through the Picard Studio called Cultivate. Her work is featured at Flower City Medical Office, where proceeds from sales support the Lupus Foundation of America.

Linda’s style is best described as “representational with a twist” — adding her own painterly interpretation to make it something more. Color, light, and energy are all part of the story being told on paper, with a brush or bold mark-making. She describes herself as a lifelong artist, still learning, still discovering more.

“Creativity is about being ever ready for the presence of magic and viewing the world around us as if through the eyes of a child” Mary Whyte
