Shadow Play: Exploring Light & Shape class

Join this shadow art workshop in Fairport, NY for a relaxing, imaginative class where light and everyday objects become your art supplies. We’ll cast and study the shapes shadows create, then trace, draw, and reinterpret them into surprising, expressive compositions.

This class is all about seeing familiar objects in a whole new light — literally. Through guided observation, you’ll explore positive and negative space, contrast, and silhouette, discovering hidden images and patterns you’d never notice in an object’s ordinary form. It’s part art class, part creative discovery, and a wonderful excuse to slow down.
By the end of class, you’ll have transformed a handful of everyday objects into a unique shadow-inspired composition — proof that inspiration is often hiding in plain sight (or, in this case, plain light).
What to Bring: A few shadow-worthy objects with interesting shapes or silhouettes — leaves, flowers, feathers, keys, shells, toys, kitchen utensils, figurines, jewelry, or other favorite treasures. The more unusual the shape, the better!
All other materials provided, including drawing paper, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, markers, watercolors, and brushes.
